The Summer Soccer Hackathon 2025 is a pilot online event inviting passionate young innovators (15-30 years old) to join a unique virtual experience focused on developing sustainable solutions that address environmental challenges in soccer. This hackathon runs over 1 week providing participants an opportunity to engage in team-based problem solving, receive expert mentorship, and access exclusive resources - all designed to help them craft impactful projects that promote sustainability in the world of soccer.  

 

The Hackathon supports on key themes including:

• Sustainable Soccer Gear: Innovating eco-friendly materials and circular designs

• Plastic Waste Reduction: Creating solutions to minimise single-use plastics in soccer events and fan culture

• Eco-Friendly Fan Engagement: Design Campaigns to inspire sustainable behaviours among soccer fan

• Art & Culture: Leveraging Creative Arts to inspire sustainability, mental wellbeing, and community spirit

• Mental Health & Wellbeing: Promoting mental health awareness and support through soccer-related activities that connect sport, community, and sustainability

• Bonus: Community Mapping with GIS: Learning basic GIS tools to visualise environmental, social, or health challenges in local and global soccer communities.

This pilot program sets the stage for future international editions leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup and possibly future sports and sustainability hackathons.
